Thanks!

Thanks for the information, Barbara. It's really sad these people have nothing better to do with their lives! Unfortunately I haven't had much time to spend at the forum lately, but I just love Rilke's works and need to visit this site more often. Look forward to seeing you there! :) Linda P.S. I su...

Problem with forum notification

Hi, I'm not sure who to contact, so I am posting my problem here. I keep receiving e-mails from forum@rilke.de notifying me that I have received a reply to one of the topics I am watching. However, when I click on the link provided in the e-mail, I get the message: "The topic or post you requested d...

Thanks

Thanks for your above comment, Volker. I was wondering about that last posting with no comment myself. I guess some people have nothing better to do with their time. Today I received an email from this forum stating I had a response to one of my old postings from 2003 only to find a bunch of jumbed ...

Hi Stilz, Thanks for your comments, and yes, you are quite right. I had indeed taken the word "Fremdlingin" to be diminutive. Thanks for your clarification. I suppose this word would simply be translated as "stranger" then? Thanks also for your tip -- I will take a look at the posting you mentioned....

Hi Volker, Thanks for the poem. It was pretty difficult for me (lots of words I'm not familiar with). I attempted to translate the latter portion pertaining to the night. However, I don't feel like this is a very good translation, and I'm not sure if I completely understand it, especially the last t...

Hi Paula, Ingrid, Volker (and anyone else interested!) After all the time I spent putting this list of poems together, I am disappointed that there doesn’t really seem to be much to say about what Rilke wrote on the subject of the night (and stars), even though it was a theme he often used. I can’t ...

Was Rilke Über die Nacht (und Sterne) Sagt

Hello everyone! In response to Paula’s question (posted under “Nächtlicher Gang”) as to what Rilke had to say about night in his other poems, I have compiled the following list of poems, that speak of both the night and stars. I will begin by listing the poems I have found to be pertinent to this di...

Hi Paula,

I will post the list of Rilke poems about the night and stars as a new posting. However, it has turned out to be a much larger project than I had anticipated, so it may be a while before I have time to finish it.

Viele Grüße!

Hi Ingrid, Just a note to say that I really liked your comments. Unfortunately, I have a very busy schedule the next couple of days, and I don't have much time. But I know how anxious I always am to hear back from someone after I post comments, so I thought I'd try to jot down at least a few of my t...

Thanks, Volker. Goethe seems to be a little bit easier to both understand and translate. I think Rilke liked to play with words more and to keep you guessing as to what he was trying to say. I lkind of like that, but it sure can be frustrating at times.

Viele Grüße!

Hello again! Just a quick addition. “ as if precisely that within were living what our life is .” (or what is our life) OR “as if precisely that within were living that which is our life.” 1. I'm not sure if "what our life is" or "what is our life" is best because I still don't fully understand what...

Hi Ingrid and Volker, Unfortunately I didn’t have much time the past couple of days, and now I hardly know where to begin! (It’s always easier for me when I can answer right away while everything is still fresh on my mind). But let me begin by saying thanks to both of you once again for all your com...

Hi Volker and Ingrid, Wow! This is all really great! (Even the comments in German I think I understood pretty well, except that I couldn't find "erahnen," but I assume it must be similar to "ahnen" (to foresee or have a premonition?) This is just a quick note to say that I didn't have much time yest...
